The techniques of cutting rock sample from rock masses surrounding a borehole,which is used in over - coring stress relief or borehole slotting as a rock stress measuring method,are briefly reviewed. A technological approach of stress relief on local borehole - wall for local borehole - wall complete stress relief as a goestress measurement method is introduced. And a design scheme of annular slot cutting tool around a borehole - wall was given in this paper. The lab drilling tests for cutting annular slot showed that the design scheme is practical,has resolve the key technical problems of stress relief on local borehole - wall for local borehole - wall complete stress relief method.
