Based on engineering geology investigation and indoor rock mechanics test,the stability analysis of the mined-out areas at a certain mine in Hubei province was made by Mathews stability diagram approach and finite element method.The basic conclusion is that the exposed area of roof should be controlled in 600 to 900 square meters.It provided a scientific basis for the guarantee of safety in mine production.
