The technique of the 3D finite element method(FEM) of strength reduction considering the coupling of temperature and stress fields is studied.A program for the 3D FEM of strength reduction considering the coupling of temperature and stress fields is developed.By comparison of the FEM calculation with the results obtained with the limit equilibrium method,the applicability of the FEM of shear strength reduction to analyze slope stability is evaluated,and the result of comparison shows that the FEM method is feasible to analyze slope stability considering temperature field.
