This paper introduces the concept of exergy, discusses the principle, method and process to use exergy analysis assess the quality of surface water environment, then, assesses the surface water environment pollution caused by underground waste water in a certain mine, calculates in detail the synthesis indexes of the river water pollution caused by the heavy metals in all environmental monitoring sections, finally, puts out that exergy analysis is practical and effective for the quality assessment of environment.
