Reserved resources of scheelite and wolframite and their distribution in China are presented in this paper. The current situation of exploitation of tungsten resources is discussed. There is a limited reserved resource of wolframite in China and the chance of discovering new wolframite resources is extremely rare. However, China is abundant of proved scheelite resources and conditions are readily satisfied for large scale exploitation of these resources. In order for Chinas tungsten industry to achieve sustainable development, there should be a strategic shift from large scale development of wolframite to that of scheelite. The author recommends 10 large deposits of special type of scheelite or deposits of scheelite coexistent with wolframite, which can be exploited on a large scale.
