The current situation of nonferrous metals industry in Hunan is discussed, along with the domestic and international environment in which the province is located and problems encountered in the development process. In the paper, the author also deals with the opportunities and challenges the province is faced with, the striving targets for the period of 2003~2007 for the nonferrous metals industry in the province, priorities for development , and working measures to be taken.
