For motors, soft starting offers many advantages and soft starters have found widespread application. This paper briefly deals with the fundamental principles of soft starters, and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of several soft starting modes and operating modes. The functions and application of soft starters are presented. Several new techniques used in the soft starters are described.
