Abstract:The advantages of the CSIR and NGI classification methods are successfully absorbed in the RMI rock classification method which could better reflect the influence of the rock fragment strength and structural face behavior on rockmass strength. The RMI method can be used for engineering classification of any 'intact-broken' rockmass. The paper presents in detail the fundamental principle, classification procedures, and determination of parameters. And further, a comparison is made with other classification methods.
