Abstract:The slag and liner of a Noranda furnace must be demolished once every two years. Due to the danger of vibration and high temperature, demolition is usually done mechanically outside China. In Daye Nonferrous Metals Corp, demolition is done using controlled blasting in a high temperature environment. This paper presents the selection of blasting method, blast hole patterns, the charge volume and structure, priming network and the safety precautions. Through monitoring of the blasting vibration, it is concluded that the slag and liner of a Noranda furnace can be demolished by controlled blasting with high efficiency.
