Knowledge economy is one on the basis of knowledge production, diffusion and application. As the knowledge economy appears, the mining industry in the 21th century should actively promote development in six technical spheres, including the development and utilization of the mineral resources in aconcentrated ore deposit area and supernormal mineral resources, the innovation of mining equipment and technology, the advancement of intellectualization of mining production and management, the development of mine environmental protection technique, the development of new fields of exploiting oceanic mineral resources, and improvement of the quality of the manpower resources in mining industry.
