Abstract:Cracks occurred on the outside of a bricked chimney, which was 30 m high and constructed in the 1960's, and its top showed serious weathering. What is worse, the chimney inclined already. It was decided that the chimney must be demolished through directional blasting. Therefore, a series of precautions were taken, including pre-demolishing the chimney lining through blasting, cutting directional slots beforehand, pre-stressing in the tilting direction, and determining the rational position and shape of the slots and blasting parameters. Therefore, the chimney collapsed in the preset tilting position as planned.
