Proportion of ore tonnage from deep mining is increaseing in China's total mining output. Therefore,the research achievements in rock mechanics and mobile law of ground pressure will be of great significance to construction of deep mines. This paper gives a brief description of features of rock mechanics and ground pressure behaviour concerning deep mining. Also presented are the major achievements, made in China and abroad, in research on rock failure mechanism and engineering control methods.
