The retreat slicing blast of VCR was replaced by side blasting with more than 10 thousand tons of blasted ore each time. And the blast patten in VCR has been improved. An introduction to the causes of side blasting has been described, and the design criterion for side blasting and the results of practical application are given. Meanwhile, the existing problems and futural trend are pointed out.
